Arsenal plot swoop for young French trio
Arsenal are keen to sign French trio Hatem Ben Arfa, Clement Chantome and Francis Coquelin, however they may face competition from Marseille for the signing of Lyon wonderkid Hatem Ben Arfa.
Marseille may hold the upper hand in the transfer due to Arsenal’s interest in Marseille star Samir Nasri, and the French club may allow Nasri to leave if they seal Ben Arfa,
Ben Arfa, 21, has just been voted Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year, an award which Nasri won the previous year, and has attracted the attention of major clubs such as Manchester United in previous months.
Arsenal are also keen to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Clement Chantome. The holding midfield player was one of few PSG players to win plaudits from the French press last year after PSG’s dismal performance in the league. Chantome is being likened to Mathieu Flamini who left the Emirates earlier this month, and Arsene Wenger may see the PSG star as a direct replacement.
Reports also suggest that Francis Coquelin is on the verge of signing at the Emirates. The 17-year-old current plays for French side Laval, who play in the third tier of French football. The midfielder has been on trial at Arsenal this week, and has impressed Wenger enough to be offered a contract.
