Lampard is Internazionale’s number one target
Chelsea midfielder and vice-captain Frank Lampard has become Inter Milan’s number one transfer target, according to BBC Sport.
Speculation surrounding a possible move has intensified since new manager Luiz Felipe Scolari joined the club, as rumours suggested that Lampard would be replaced in the team by Portuguese star Deco. Other rumours suggest that Scolari is so keen to keep Lampard at Stamford Bridge that he has ordered the Chelsea board to make Lampard the Premier League’s highest paid player.
New Internazionale manager Jose Mourinho has made no secret of his desire to sign his former midfielder and Lampard is yet to sign a new proposed contract at the club, and is rumoured to be seriously considering a move to join his former mentor.
Inter president Massimo Moratti told Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport: “He’s our number one objective. Mourinho likes Lampard a lot.”
Moratti seemed to play with the media by hinting there may have been talks between clubs saying: “Has there been contact with Chelsea? I think there has but I don’t know yet.”
Lampard’s contract is due to run out next summer and many believe it is unlikely that Lampard will leave the club who have supported him so much through recent troubles. Both club and player were reported to have said that the midfielder is to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge soon in the next few weeks.
